You arrive at the scene of an incident. The emergency services have already been called. A pedestrian is bleeding heavily from a leg wound, but their leg's not broken. What could you do to help them?

You should first protect yourself from exposure to blood - many first-aid kits contain surgical gloves. To stem the flow of blood, you should apply firm pressure over the wound. If there's an object stuck in the wound, you should leave it in place and build up padding on either side, making sure you do not press on the object.
